BIMMS is an open-hardware and open-software platform for electrical characterisation of biological tissues and electrode–tissue interfaces. Developed with Louis Regnacq, Yannick Bornat and Olivier Romain, it connects configurable measurement hardware to a Python control interface.

The platform supports impedance spectroscopy, current- or voltage-controlled measurements, and two-, three- or four-electrode configurations. Custom waveforms can be used to explore protocols beyond conventional sinusoidal measurements.

The design and validation are described in Regnacq, Bornat, Romain and Kolbl, BIMMS: A versatile and portable system for biological tissue and electrode-tissue interface electrical characterization, HardwareX, e00387.

Sharing both the hardware and its control software makes the measurement methods available for inspection, reuse and adaptation in other bioelectronics experiments.
